KTA Structures is proud to have worked as the structural engineer for the client team on the 4-storey new build block of flats at 9 Cross Street.

Our team tackled a variety of challenges to deliver a robust and efficient design:

• Retaining Wall Design: We reviewed and optimized the design to allow the site to be carved back into a steep chalk slope at the rear.

• Foundation Design: Thanks to the shallow chalk beneath the site, we were able to implement a simple pad foundation. However, due to shallow made ground, we opted for a suspended ground floor slab, spanning between reinforced concrete ground beams. KTA provided the detailed reinforcement and scheduling for this crucial element.

• Steel Frame & Connections: We designed a braced steel frame, complete with all steel-to-steel connection details, ensuring strength and stability.

• Precast Concrete Deck: To speed up construction, we incorporated a precast concrete plank deck for fast installation of the superstructure.
