Lakeside Holiday Park

KTA were appointed as the structural engineers for the comprehensive refurbishment of Chichester Lakeside Holiday Park, providing expert support from the initial design stages through to site investigations and the final construction phase. The park is set on a challenging lakeside location, originally formed from an old gravel quarry, which presented complex ground conditions. These conditions required a piled foundation for the new steel-framed pool extension.

Additional challenges included the presence of a buried high-voltage cable running beneath the site. This necessitated adjustments to the foundation design to create a significant exclusion zone around the cable. Furthermore, the lakeside deck area required rebuilding with foundations that extended below the water level of the lake.

The new steel frame for the pool area featured a large transfer beam to support a double-pitched roof. As part of our work, we also assessed and surveyed the existing historic Vierendeel timber trussed roof, evaluating its capacity to support the proposed installation of photovoltaic panels. For the recreational space, we designed a simple yet effective flat-roof timber frame extension using engineered timber joists, which enabled the larger spans necessary for the intended use of the space.

Our team ensured that every challenge was met with a thoughtful and tailored engineering solution, helping to bring the vision for Chichester Lakeside Holiday Park to life.
